Hello,
The Page Speed of a Website is never slow because of the Template since the Files are static and it is not taking any processing time on the Servers. The Root Cause of the Slow Page Speed of a Website is usually because of the Server Speeds or Server Configuration which sometimes does not have caching setup. Or it is due to Non-Optimized Assets like Images or Non-Minified Files. Example: On this Page: http://nathanielwrightdp.com/recent.html, you can see: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fnathanielwrightdp.com%2Frecent.html where it suggests that the Image Sizes are abnormally large taking up more than 25 secs to load. Make sure that you have optimized these images and check the tips provided in the Documentation > Start > Optimization Tips Section. This will help in speeding up your website.
Hope this Helps!

I ended up compressing the images manually instead of incorporating an outside algorithm. Thanks a bunch for telling that. I completely forgot about compressing the files given that the site is trying to load 500+MB of content.
Hello,
Your website wouldn't load 500MB of Data at a given point of time as only the Data that is required by the visited Webpage is downloaded. You can delete all the other files from your servers if they are not required by your website.
