Sliders - Image size and orientation

Question

I would like to create a slider that has a combination of landscape and portrait orientated images. When I do that the portrait images auto size to the max width so the image becomes too large, only viewable with scrolling up or down the page. Can I limit the max height rather than the max width, or is there an option for auto sizing by orientation?

I am using the slider from the slider canvas.html, however I can use any slider I am simply looking for a simple slide show to use with photography that works with portrait and landscape orientated images. If you can recommend something that would be great.
