Hi-

I just purchased "Canvas", unpacked it and I am ready to get to work. Now what? LOL.

So now I picked out the template that I want and I am ready to customize it. How do I do that? Do you include any instructions for editing for someone who has no idea what to do next? is there maybe a general FAQ or a "getting started" or a "here's how you customize a Canvas template" youtube video?

Assuming the answer to above is no- then here are my questions to help me (and others) get started...

  1. to get started- do I load the html file into an html editor to customize? If so I have a couple of editors... I have dreamweaver; sublime text; komodo. Do I use one of these to edit your code?
  2. is there a particular editor that you can recommend if my above list isn't appropriate?
  3. if I do use one of the above editors- how do I know what code to change? Is it documented within the HTML?
  4. Do I even need to use an editor or is there a better way?

By the way- if there is no " Canvas" specific you tube video for beginners... any chance of developing one in the future? I see you have some videos that are code specific but nothing as a general "getting started" guide.

Thanks- and your templates look great! Can't wait to get started!

You have to use an editor, there's no getting around that. If you open up the HTML and you feel like you just pulled up the Matrix, don't panic. You just need to learn some basic stuff about how the code goes together. Codecademy.com is a good resource to learn the very bare minimum basics of HTML/CSS for free. Once you understand the data you'll know how to manipulate it in a way you like. The developers of the product seem to expect you to know how to build a website before you buy the template. If you know what you're looking at a template saves a TON of time. But this is not a 'drag and drop' product.

I started out with a bare minimum understanding and learned a LOT in the process of creating this web site: https://d2kpejp8x5bq63.cloudfront.net/

All using the Canvas template. Thanks to this template it looks like I have a second job. Better than spending money on college courses to learn how to do this. Just don't quit and really FORCE IT into that brain of yours.

Hello,

Thank You so much for the Kind Words and your Continued Patience with us.

Since Canvas is a Static HTML5/CSS3 Template, you will need to use a Text/Code Editor like Sublime Text (we use this), Notepad++ or anything equivalent. We will Definitely Work on a Beginner's Video and release it in the Next 48 Hours. We are also working on some Documentation Improvements and Quick FAQs to improve the Coding Experience with Canvas. This would take some more time as we are structuring the way we are going to present this to you so that it is easily accessible. Thanks for your Patience.

Meanwhile, do let us know if we can help you with anything else or if you find any further issues with Canvas.
