Mailchimp Form

Question

Problem: Mailchimp form was successfully subscribing to list, but would forward to a blank page showing the message, rather than popping it up on the same page.
I found some instructions on the comments section of envato - https://themeforest.net/item/canvas-the-multipurpose-html5-template/9228123/comments?page=163 (first message). After doing this, the page now pops up the message 'please enter a message' and the mailchimp action no longer completes.
I tried following the instructions here - http://support.semicolonweb.com/forums/topic/mailchimp-subscribe-adds-to-list-but-404s/ and changing the line in functions.js, but this had no effect.
Can you please advise?
