gZip Compression & Browser Caching can be enabled using the .htaccess File on an Apache Web Server. You can use the Codes from here: https://github.com/h5bp/html5-boilerplate/blob/master/dist/.htaccess to enable these modules on your server.

Thanks for reporting this! We will fix this shortly. It appears that the HTML5 Boilerplate have updated their File Structure. Meanwhile, please consider using this instead: https://wpengine.com/resources/how-to-enable-gzip-compression-for-wordpress/ . You can also search for "Enable gZip compression on Apache" or "Enable gZip compression on Nginx" and you will get a lot of useful code snippets. Additionally, you can also simply ask your Web Hosting Provider to enable this for you.
