Google PageSpeed Tools Optimisation

I have build a site with your excellent template and all is working well. However I am struggling to improve google adword quality scores, mostly on mobile as google thinks that the pages are not optimised for mobile.

I am using the google pagespeed tools to test the site/templates. The main issue I am having is the deferral of CSS and JS.

You will see "Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content" issues

I have tried some simple deferral options, using JS to defer the loading of main CSS and JS assets, however that just breaks the site visually (normally just sits there with the loader spinning).

Can you please suggest some fixes, workarounds to get the performance up?
