Gmail - Less secure app access

I was setting up my form today and noticed this on the backend of my account:

Allow less secure apps: ON
On 30 May 2022, this setting will no longer be available

Can I ask....what will happen with our forms? Will they still work or are changes coming?

Hello,

Thanks for reporting this. We are already aware of this and the Gmail SMTPs will be ported to oAuth2 Authentication according to the Default Standards. We will release this Update possibly by the end of April. Thanks for your Patience.

Meanwhile, do let us know if we can help you with anything else or if you find any further issues with Canvas.

Excellent. Thanks a million.

Quick question....was testing the form there. It works perfectly but I get this message directly after receiving the email. Have you ever come across this before?

Hello,

Very Happy to Help! :)

This might be due to Huge number of Emails being sent from your Gmail Address which is why Google might block the outgoing messages sent via SMTP. If you plan to send many Emails, we would recommend using Sendgrid or Dedicated Email Hosting (Eg. Namecheap) as this would ensure guaranteed email delivery.

Hope this Helps!

Hello,

Thanks for your Patience!

So we have been already working on this and trying to make this work properly with Gmail OAuth and additionally, we want to make this easier for our Canvas Users but it is way too complicated to setup. Currently, we do not recommend you to use Gmail for sending Emails especially because of this unnecessarily complicated setup.

We highly recommend using MailGun or SendGrid (they have completely free plans) and they are very secure to use and super easy to setup. Just a Few DNS Settings and the complete setup takes just within 5 minutes. Please consider trying them out.

Hope this Helps!

I have an issue with not using Gmail. My website only has a Gmail email account. People use the form on my website to enter their Radio details, to get login details back off us to use the backend of the platform we have created.

Can we setup an App Password? The 16 digit passcode that gives a non-Google app or device permission to access out Google account?

Hello,

We have just tested this out and yes you can use it. Same SMTP Codes apply, you will just need to change the Password to your App Password. These are settings we have used: Select App > Mail, Select Device > Other (then enter Website). That't it. Simply use the Generated Password for SMTP Password.

This will definitely work fine. Hope this Helps!
