Elements broken in Canvas v5 Google Chrome / Mac Big Sur update

Hi Semi team,

Over the years I've tweaked and customized my one-page Canvas website, and along with your help I was able to get my website exactly as I wanted. After a recent update to my mac from OS Catalina to OS Big Sur, I noticed that on Google Chrome, my whole website is completely broken.

The videos no longer pop up, but they send me to the website directly. The filter links no longer work either.

After checking on Safari and Firefox, it still seems to work fine. Online OR Offline, Google Chrome no longer is working in this MacOS version.

I downloaded the latest update of Canvas (v6), and I can see that the pop up links and filters all work properly. I looked into updating from my version v5.9.1 to v6, and you say to start from scratch. Is this really the only way ? I honestly cannot rebuild my entire website from scratch as a lot of the code was customized, and I'm assuming I can't just copy/paste anything like my main index, css, or custom.css??

If there is no way to update easily, I'd like some kind of solution to keep my version working in this MacOS, do you know of any solution? Or please suggest how I can update or if you can help make this update easier

Thank you,
Jason

Hello,

We understand but the Canvas 6 is a major upgrade and a lot of Elements have been designed from scratch or modified heavily for optimizations and better performance and flexibility. Since Canvas is an HTML Template, updates have to be done manually.

This issue has already been addressed on the Forums and we still provide minor bug fixes for Older Versions where necessary. To fix the JS issue with Google Chrome on Big Sur, simply replace the existing js/plugins.js File with this one: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Xwhcd8uccvqHxolB5jFabmwSkjw9STxU/view?usp=sharing . This should automatically fix the issues.

Hope this Helps!

Hi Semi Team,

Thank you so much! That fixed the problem!! I did search the forum about this issue but couldn't find that post so my apologies.

One quick little issue, the video pops up now but does not auto play, is there a work around for this?

I'll work on updating my site to the Canvas 6 for future updates. I just have a quick question regarding this process as my head hurts thinking about how to redo all the custom coding...

So first off, I'd have to work on the index.html line by line? I can't just copy/paste the index?

And this custom.css sheet won't work on Canvas 6? Could you please take a look at this sheet and advise how to update my custom sheet that we made together in the past?

I'm willing to pay for extra help

Thank you,
Jason

Hello,

No Problems at all! Very Happy to Help! :)

The Video Autoplay is blocked by the Browsers. Video can only autoplay if they are muted.

Canvas 6 brings many Breaking Changes, so simply replacing the Files will not work and not recommended at all. You can check the Entire List of Changes here: http://docs.semicolonweb.com/docs/upgrading-v5-to-v6/migration/ and decide if you would like to go forward making the changes. And yes, you will need to check the Components/Elements you are using on your Website and make the Changes line-by-line. Unfortunately, there is no other way. Also, we have made these breaking changes after more than 5 and a half years of initially releasing Canvas keeping flexibility and customizations in mind.

The css/custom.css File also will not work with Canvas 6 as the CSS Classes of some of the Components have changed.

Consider getting in touch on Our Email: semicolonweb@gmail.com for further discussions and then you can decide if you would like to go for Customizations. Currently, we would recommend taking this slow and just check the Components used on your Website and compare them with Canvas 6 codes, then you can decide and test the codes.

Hope this Helps!
