I would like to use the construction demo, but I want to have all the pages and supporting files in the root directory. Every attempt I have made to move the files have not been successful, broken links and missing files/images. Is it possible to move all the files to the root directory or is this simply not possible ?

Please consider using the Latest Version of Canvas! Canvas 6 has all the Files in the root Folder by default. Meanwhile, you can consider using the Package Generator: http://docs.semicolonweb.com/docs/getting-started/installation/ we have launched just today to generate the Files only related to the Construction Niche Demos.
