Beginner question about using template and pre-made elements.

Hey there, I'm new to this whole Canvas template thing. I'm just starting out as a developer, and my skills are pretty basic – I know HTML, CSS, JS, Bootstrap, and a bit of jQuery. This is my first time diving into templates to create a website, so forgive me if this is a newbie question.

I'm a little confused about how Canvas works. My plan is to pick a homepage template and then grab some cool sections or elements from the niche demo sites. Plus, I want to use those pre-made elements. Can I mix and match them to build a website? And if I can, how do I deal with the CSS files? Like, if I copy a section from one template and paste it into my homepage, do I also need to copy the CSS file and somehow merge it into the same file? Or should I copy it into the custom CSS file? Sorry for the rookie questions – I hope someone can help me out. Thanks a bunch!

Hello,

Thanks for your Super Kind Patience and Apologies for the Delays in replying to your Support Query!

  1. Yes, you can mix/match sections from different Niche Demos, Templates and Blocks.

  2. When you are mixing sections from Niche Demos or Blocks, you must also copy the CSS (or demo-specific CSS Files) and JS Codes (or demo-specific JS Files) in the New Custom Template.

  3. When using Custom CSS, simply paste the additional CSS in the css/custom.css File (this is currently already linked in all the HTML Files) or use a new js/custom.js File (this is currently not linked and you must link this manually after the js/functions.bundle.js JS File Linking) to add your Custom JS Codes.

  4. We recommend you to use a Custom Package using our Exclusive Package Generator: http://docs.semicolonweb.com/docs/getting-started/installation/ according to the HTML Files you need for your website and our Package Generator will sort the Files for you to download. Suppose, you need the demo-seo.html Template and the other related Templates (choose up to 10), simply choose this File in the Package Generator and then press the Generate button. A Custom Package will be generated for you only based on your selected file. While all the CSS/JS are included by default, you can use the Default Full Package to use other Blocks/Sections as required.

Hope this Helps!

Hello,
Thank you for your response. I appreciate the information provided. I'll make sure to follow the instructions for mixing and matching sections. Your guidance on how to handle CSS and JS codes is very helpful. I'll be sure to follow your instructions and utilize the custom.css and custom.js files as needed. The link to the Exclusive Package Generator is also very useful, and I'll explore it further if needed.

If I have any more questions or encounter issues, I'll reach out. Your support is much appreciated. Thanks again!
